“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
As brands increasingly turn to AI-generated imagery to address budget constraints and compressed timelines, we’re at risk of losing sight of what makes advertising truly compelling: the irreplaceable magic of human creativity.
While AI technology may seem magical (and in many ways, the access to information is), the magic of creativity itself, that uniquely human wild imagination, the ability to link disparate ideas, to connect emotionally with each other and the world, cannot be replaced by technology, no matter how advanced. This creative magic is messily, beautifully human.
AI excels at the tasks that drain creative energy without adding creative value. Resizing assets for dozens of platforms, generating caption variations for videos, adapting existing concepts across markets: this is where AI becomes genuinely valuable. These tedious, time-consuming tasks frequently pull even our best creatives away from the work they alone can ideate and execute. By automating these tasks, we free creative teams to focus on what they do best: thinking, imagining, and connecting with audiences in unexpected ways.
Ideally, these AI time and cost savings will give creative minds the space to wander, to find inspiration in unexpected places, to make art. The best ideas come from having room to think, observe, make connections, stand in the sun, touch grass.
The question isn’t if we should be using AI in advertising. We should! But use it to give our creatives back the time they crave to be creative, to make art, to build connection, to be magic.
