Why Clubhouse App Might Be the Next Major Social Media Platform: Social Media Examiner Clubhouse is an invite-only, audio-based social media platform. Users create rooms to discuss various topics, which anyone on the platform can access. Without approval from a moderator, they can only listen to the conversation. If a user wishes to participate, they can use the “raise-your-hand” function to get the moderator’s attention. The audio during the conversation cannot be shared outside of the room and is deleted once the room is closed. As of now, the platform is available only for iOs users. 

Reddit acquires Dubsmash | TechCrunch Reddit announced the acquisition of the short-video platform, Dubsmash. While the exact terms of the deal remain undisclosed, it was revealed that Dubsmash will maintain its own platform and brand, while Reddit will integrate its video tools. Dubmash is now one of TikTok’s biggest rivals. Reddit attributes the Dubsmash acquisition to its inclusion efforts, as black, latinx, and women users make up the biggest portion of Dubsmash’s audience.

Twitter is shutting down its Periscope apps – The Verge Twitter will discontinue the Periscope application by March 2021. Meanwhile, users will be able to download their Periscope videos and data before the app gets shuttered next year. Periscope has a program called “Super Broadcaster,” which allows selected users to cash out tips given to them by their followers. While new users can’t access the Periscope app after March 2021, current users can continue to cash out tips until April 30th, 2021. After March, Periscope will become a “read-only archive of public broadcasts.

Instagram Adds New Creative Tools in Reels and Stories Instagram has updated Reels and Stories again. The platform is investing in its video features, as promised earlier this year. Users can see watermarks on Reels now. The measure is to ensure branding when Reels are reshared. Additionally, Instagram updated Reels’ audio and image editing functions. Reels added “Audio Mix” and “Voice Over” options. Users can compose their videos with outside audio through music clips or voice recording.  Reels has also added more image editing features, giving users more ability to change each individual element of their video clip. On Stories, users can find the new photo booth or multi-captured mode. This new feature enables users to take multiple photos at once with only one click. 

LinkedIn Adds New ‘Products’ Tab on Company Pages to Highlight Specific Products  LinkedIn Announced a new tab exclusively for Company Pages. The “Products” tab is a space for companies to showcase their product offerings and highlight key features. LinkedIn believes that Products can be an opportunity for endorsement and lead generation. 

Facebook Makes its ‘Collab’ Music Creation App Available to All US Users The Collab app was launched in May but was an invite-only app. Currently, Facebook made the app available to anyone within the U.S territory. The experimental app was created as an alternative for musicians when the pandemic started. Facebook creates experimental apps like Collab to gather insights and data to develop new platforms and to stay ahead of its competitors on possible trends.
